As an employee owner, there are a few things more exciting than watching money flow in. OK, if you’re Laura, riding a unicorn through a pool of pistachio pudding might beat it…barely.
As High Touch’s Accounts Receivable Collections Clerk, Laura is oftentimes the first point of contact for clients and their billing or accounting needs. Laura is responsible for receiving and recording payments for High Touch’s clients. She also handles any invoicing and billing questions that come in. If you’ve been on either end of a billing conversation as a client or business owner, you know that having conversations about finances can be challenging. Having a personable, knowledgeable person on the other end can make a world of a difference.
“For me, the pulse of the company can be seen through our cash flow,” states Laura. “I deal with this on a daily basis, and as an employee owner, that motivates me.”
Cashing It in for High Touch
Processing payments is just one part of the job that motivates Laura. Of course, when you’re discussing money, you get to know your customers pretty well. The other big piece of the job that Laura finds enjoyable is building personable, trusting relationships with High Touch’s client base.
As you may know, one of the easiest ways to get to know people is talking about pets—they’re adorable, and just about everyone has a pet that they can relate to. Laura loves talking about her two cats, but when she talks about their names, it can get awkward for everyone in the conversation.
“One of the most awkward things I do on a regular basis is talking about my cats by name. Kitten Head is an adult cat, with a really small head. New Kitty isn’t new, but her name just stuck for my husband, much to my dismay.”
At High Touch, our key purpose is bringing the human touch to technology. The ongoing client interaction Laura provides clients throughout the billing process is very important to helping High Touch serve our purpose.
Warning: This One Is Not as Quiet and Reserved as She Seems
At first, Laura may seem reserved, but once she starts talking, her eclectic personality shines through. In fact, her cubicle is fully decked out with unicorn flair, bringing her unique, magical personality to the workplace.
Like mythical creatures, technology is something that has always intrigued Laura. “I remember dialup modem days, the advancements never cease to blow my mind.”
Laura’s gusto for working in the technology industry started when working on her personal technology projects. In the past, she has designed her own website and created blog templates. Now, she uses that self-developed technology interest to help build meaningful relationships with clients through her role as Accounts Receivable Collections Clerk.
Get to Know Laura
As part of our Employee Spotlight interview, we ask a series of lighthearted questions to highlight the unique, diverse personalities that make our High Touch team great. It turns out, Laura is on #TeamHotDogIsASandwich with Seth and has an automation idea that most cat owners can probably get behind.
If you could jump into a pool of anything of your choosing, what you fill it with?
Is a hot dog a sandwich?
I haven’t really thought about that one before. Yes, it’s meat in bread with condiments.
What’s something you wish you could automate?
The full process of cleaning cat litter pans.
What’s your favorite mobile app or website?
Google Music is what I use the most.
What’s the most awkward thing you do on a regular basis?
Telling people the names of my cats. Kitten Head has a tiny head, and New Kitty isn’t new, but that’s the name that stuck for my husband, much to my dismay.
What’s your spirit animal and why?
Have you ever seen my cubicle? Unicorns ‘till the break of dawn, because I’m freaking magical!
If you had a warning label, what would it say?
Warning: this one is not as quiet and reserved as she seems to be.
You’ve been given an elephant. You can’t give it away or sell it, what would you do with the elephant?
Set it free at an animal refuge where it would never be hunted or kept in a cage.
