If someone asked you why you wanted to be successful at work, what would your answer be? For Brett, the answer is easy: his family.
“My wife and children motivate me. They mean the world to me,” states Brett. “I really want to be successful at my job, so I can help provide for them.”
As a Support Engineer, there’s some surprising overlap. By day, he’s monitoring systems—by night, with two young kids, it’s baby monitors. “I think I do a pretty good job, as long as it’s not trying to pick what kind of drink my 2-year-old wants. I always get that wrong,” he laughs.
What Does a Support Engineer Do?
“I unplug computers and plug them back in,” jokes Brett. “In reality, I help the team monitor client systems, including things like workstations and firewalls.”
In his role, Brett’s day could also consist of network-related maintenance and configuration or assisting with escalated tickets. “Most importantly, working in support, I make sure our clients and partners are happy.”
Firewall Refresh: Dallas Data Center
As far as Brett can remember, he’s always been interested in technology. Brett joined the High Touch team in 2019.
Since he climbed on board, his favorite project has been helping refresh our Dallas Data Center firewall. “I really learned a lot about how our infrastructure worked and the new kind of firewall we would be using,” states Brett. “We stayed up all night on a Saturday to make sure things were working, but it was a good time.”
“I also enjoy going on-site to meet with our clients, whether it’s for a regular visit or to help solve an issue they’re having — I get to show them face-to-face what we mean by ‘bringing the human touch to technology.’”
If Brett could try out any other job at High Touch, it’d be marketing. “I think it’d be fun and challenging for me,” he says.
18 Things You Might Not Know About Brett Werth
