Creating the Best User Experience

As a Training Specialist II, Sydney’s role is critical to serving up a 5-star experience for High Touch’s Nigel restaurant POS system. Her primary goal? To make the software feel intuitive and easy to use.

“I break down the system’s features into bite-sized, manageable steps,” she explains. “With hands-on demos, guides, and ongoing support, I help people master the POS systems and, hopefully, enjoy the process along the way.”

Sydney’s approach is hands-on and personal, ensuring that High Touch’s clients have the knowledge they need to use Nigel like experts. By making each feature relevant and easy to understand, she empowers Nigel’s users to feel confident with the technology, setting them up for success from day one.

With a background in the restaurant industry, Sydney knows firsthand the challenges that many of her trainees face. She uses this experience to make sure that her training sessions are relatable and grounded in real-world needs.

“In my role, bringing the human touch to technology means making the Nigel POS system not only functional but also intuitive, relatable, and relevant for users,” she explains. “Drawing on my restaurant background, I put myself in the end user’s shoes to design training content that addresses their real-life needs and experiences.”

Finding Joy in Teamwork

When asked about her favorite part of working at High Touch, Sydney’s answer is simple: the people.

“My favorite part about working at High Touch is definitely the people I get to work with—I learn something new every day,” she says warmly. “I’m surrounded by a supportive team, and I truly feel fortunate to be part of a company that genuinely cares about its employees. The culture here makes all the difference and makes every day rewarding.”

Her motivation? A strong appetite for books. “I work hard to fuel my reading addiction,” she laughs. “41 books and counting this year!”

9 Things You Might Not Know About Sydney Unruh

As part of our Employee Spotlight interview, we ask a series of lighthearted questions to highlight the unique, diverse personalities that make our High Touch team great. Does anyone else like the sound of fully automated grocery shopping?

1. If you could move to any other High Touch market (location), which one would you choose?

For sure, it would be Kansas City—I’m a huge Chiefs fan and have family up there.

2. If you could jump into a pool of anything of your choosing, what would you fill it with?

Mmm, mashed potatoes. I could live on mashed potatoes.

3. Is a hot dog a sandwich?

I believe a hot dog belongs in its own category. The bun is usually connected, giving it a unique structure that feels different from a traditional sandwich.

4. What was your first job?

A lifeguard.

5. Does a cyclops wink or blink?

Blink!

6. What’s something you wish you could automate?

I wish I could automate grocery shopping. While I enjoy cooking, the planning, list making, and remembering what I need always feels like a chore. An automated system that could track what’s running low and order exactly what I need for the week would save so much time and mental energy!

7. What’s your favorite mobile app or website?

One of my favorite mobile apps is Goodreads. It’s the perfect place to track my reading, discover new books, and see what friends are reading. It helps me organize my reading list and gives great recommendations based on my interests. It’s like a personal book club in my pocket!

8. Would you rather go 30 days without your phone, or three months with no dessert?

Though I do love a good sweet treat after dinner, there’s no way I could go without my phone for 30 days.

9. If you had a warning label, what would it say?

Warning: Book Enthusiast Ahead! Proceed with caution—may engage in passionate discussions, share plot spoilers, and offer endless book recommendations!
