Bridging Community and Cybersecurity
Wichita, Kan.—(July 1, 2024)—In today’s digital age, the anxiety-inducing threat of cyberattacks looms large over businesses of all sizes. According to their website, “The Rotary Club of Wichita is a civic club dedicated and committed to making a difference in our community.” Each week, present unique topics that teach and enlighten the Wichita community. The focus of the July 1st program was cybersecurity and empowering Wichita’s business community with the knowledge they need to be cyber aware.
Cybersecurity Taking Center Stage
Jason Fenoglio, Director of Information Security at High Touch Technologies, had the honor of representing High Touch on stage, delivering an introductory podium presentation to help kick off the meeting.
Jason’s presentation, “Did You Really Click That? 5 Guaranteed Ways to Earn Office-Wide Cybersecurity Training,” highlighted the pressing need for cybersecurity awareness in the workplace. With alarm-raising statistics showing that 91% of cyberattacks originate from emails and 88% of data breaches are due to human error, the presentation underscored the financial impact of breaches, which averaged $4.4 million last year.
During his presentation, Jason outlined common cybersecurity mistakes, such as falling for phishing scams, using weak passwords, sharing passwords via email, neglecting software updates, and using unsecured public Wi-Fi. To combat these threats, he recommended implementing robust email filters, creating strong passwords, avoiding public Wi-Fi, and using automated patching systems.
