Recognizing Career Success in Human Resources
Wichita, Kan. — (February 3, 2023) — Nici Duncan, Vice President of Human Resources at High Touch Technologies, has recently been recognized for her career success and achievements by the Wichita Business Journal (WBJ), earning the 2023 HR Professionals Award.
In its 11th year, the HR Professionals Award honors professionals who “stand out not only in bringing people into their companies but so many other areas of their work. These honorees have been selected in part for their career achievement and for advancing the profession.”

As Nici points out, she didn’t necessarily seek out HR as a career, but she found an interest in the field while in college. “I enrolled in an HR class, and everything just began to click,” states Nici. “Since then, I’ve been laser-focused on growing and developing my strategic expertise so that I could add value to whatever path I chose.”
After spending most of the early part of her career at Charles Machine Works, Nici joined High Touch’s Executive team as Vice President of Human Resources in 2020.
Nici notes that joining High Touch’s Executive team as a trusted leader for the entire organization has been her greatest professional achievement to date.
“To be successful in HR, I believe you have to learn to like or at least be comfortable operating in the gray,” states Nici. “HR is not black and white, and successful HR leaders find the balance between their role in protecting the company from a legal and compliance standpoint and providing that strategic partnership to business leaders to ensure they, and the business, are successful.”
In addition to her work at High Touch, Nici finds time to lend her expertise and value to the community, serving on boards for the Noble County YMCA, OSU/OU Executive Education Partnership Program, and Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland. She also serves on the Talent Advisory Committee for the Greater Wichita Partnership.
“Nici brings incredible value to our team,” states Derrick Nielsen, High Touch’s President and CEO. “Her passion for HR, ingenuity as a leader, and commitment to High Touch’s employees and culture are just a few reasons that illustrate how incredibly deserving she is of this recognition.”
Nici spends her spare time outside the office doing anything and everything that taps into her passion for animals and the outdoors. “I love to travel and look for any opportunity to incorporate both my pups and the outdoors into our plans,” Nici states.
